This was the fourth event co-organized by IATEFL Research SIG and MenTRnet to feature experiences of mentoring teacher-research, particularly those of mentors who had encouraged their teachers to present at the recent ReSIG/MenTRnet Teachers Research Online! conference. The first event, Mentoring teacher-research in a time of Covid-19, was held in 2021. That previous event enabled mentors of teachers who had presented at the Teachers Research! Online 2021 conference to reflect on their experiences.
The fourth, 2025 event featured mentors of teachers who had presented their research at the 29-30 March Teachers Research! Online 2025 conference. Drawing inspiration from the recently published book Stories of Mentoring Teacher-Research, presenters were encouraged to tell a story rather than make a presentation, considering:
- Who main participants were
- Where the mentoring story happened
- When the mentoring story happened
- What the main issue that came up was
- How the main issue was addressed
- How the mentors felt in the story, and what they have learnt from the experience overall
It is hoped that the event will serve as a stepping-stone towards publication of further teacher-research mentoring stories, with a view to encouraging mentors to share their personal practical knowledge, and to help and/or inspire other mentors via concrete examples.
